Strategies for Social Justice Unionism: Creating the Schools and Communities We Deserve is a professional development course for WEAC members and education union activists exploring the model of social justice unionism — an approach that connects workplace advocacy to broader struggles for racial equity, immigrant rights, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and community power. Moving beyond traditional "bread and butter" unionism focused solely on wages and working conditions, this course examines how educators and unions can build coalitions, engage communities, and take collective action to address systemic inequities both inside and outside the classroom. Drawing on Wisconsin's own history of labor activism, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how union power and social justice movements intersect, and will leave with concrete action planning tools to apply in their locals.
