Your union cares about your social, emotional, financial, and physical well-being. Each year more educators die from cardiovascular disease than any other disease including cancer. Cardiovascular disease is defined as including heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure, and peripheral artery disease. Of these four major heart related health issues, heart attacks and strokes are the most common. The purpose of this course is to provide educators with sufficient information so that they can postpone or even prevent these critical health problems from occurring. This course is designed to increase your knowledge base and is not meant as a substitute for regular visits and consultations with your doctor. Designed for retired Wisconsin educators and WEAC members, this virtual book study explores creativity and purpose beyond the classroom. Using Julia Cameron's "It's Never Too Late to Begin Again," participants will reflect on identity, meaning, and reinvention after a career in service to others. Sessions offer space for discussion, reflection, and connection with fellow retirees navigating this next chapter. This course will meet the last Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. starting September 30, 2026. Participants explore the science of emotion, self-regulation strategies, and empathetic communication — developing the capacity to lead students, colleagues, and stakeholders with both head and heart. Let Them -- A Virtual Book Discussion for Educators Mel Robbins' Let Them Theory challenges us to stop wasting energy on what we can't control — and redirect it toward what we can. As parents, spouses, siblings. and loved ones this is central. For educators, this shift is transformative.  In this virtual book discussion, we'll explore how Robbins' "Let Them / Let Me" framework connects to the heart of both our personal and professional lives letting go of individual frustration and channeling our energy into personal change and collective advocacy. Participants will reflect on how this mindset applies to their lives as individuals and as educators and leave with a renewed sense of purpose and power.
